Dr. Prins finished his studies on the Faculty of Applied Physics of the Delft Technical University in 1989 after a diploma thesis at the Centre for Submicron Technology. From then until 1993 he worked as a PhD-student at the Microstructure Laboratory of the 4th Physical Institute at Stuttgart University, where he studied the optical properties of quantum wires and quantum dots. In 1994 he joined the Applied Physics Department at Tⁿbingen University.
The group on "Physics of Computer Science" has been established in 1993 and since 1994, he has established a nanostructure laboratory with basic Si and III-V processing capability and special emphasis on electron beam lithography, low damage pattern transfer processes and device characterization. In addition, high resolution TEM, SEM elctron microprobe analysis, low temperature STM, UHV-STM/AFM and a research clean room for special tasks exist. Research projects are presently funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
